Vitamin C and Hyperpigmentation

For years now, Vitamin C has been highly touted for its brightening and anti-ageing effects. Research has shown that consistent topical application of Vitamin C helps fade signs of hyper pigmentation and evens out the skin tone. Vitamin C does so by inhibiting the compounds that stimulate collagen production. The high concentration of antioxidants in Vitamin C serums and creams helps protect the skin from ultraviolet damage and other free radicals by neutralizing their effect and preventing further skin darkening. Additionally, Vitamin C also increases the skin cell turnover process. This allows the skin to heal faster than usual and prevents the risk of inflammation, scarring and redness. 

Since our epidermis naturally contains a high concentration of Vitamin C, topical application is suitable for most skin types, if not all. However, it is essential to note that Vitamin C may make the skin more sensitive to the sun. So, it is indispensable to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
